Library of The Rossini Foundation

Biblioteca della Fondazione Rossini

The Library of the Rossini Foundation housed in palazzo Montani Antaldi was inaugurated in 2007. The historic nucleus of the collection was left in his will by Rossini himself and mainly consists of many of the original compositions in his own hand. 4.000 items in all were later donations by Maestro Vittorio Gui - sheet music and scores, some of which concerning Pesarese musicians - and a collection of about 1000 items acquired by Lord St. Davids. As well as signed letters and music manuscripts, this includes valuable editions and prints of Rossiniís musical scores, especially for voice and piano. It is a collection of extraordinary interest since as a direct testimony of the composerís published works it registers how the music was performed at the time. Numerous musical sources in manuscript form have been transferred to microfilm, as have librettos and other literary sources necessary for philological work and critical editions, as well as an enormous number of letters and documents concerning Rossini, to be published in Epistolario Rossiniano. One section is dedicated to specialist articles on Rossini, another to the history of music and literature. Numerous microfilmed and photocopied sources relating to the life of Gioachino Rossini complete the collection.
